Bunker Oil Pollution Damage

The Bunkers Convention sets the liability and insurance framework for pollution caused by oil carried as fuel on board a ship. The documents to be submitted depend on the flag the vessel is registered under.

Guatemala-flagged vessels

  • Copy of the blue card addressed to the Guatemala Maritime Administration.
  • Copy of the vessel’s P&I cover (certificate of insurance).

Vessels under another flag

  • Official attestation letter from the flag administration confirming that it has not ratified the International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage, 2001.
  • Copy of the registry certificate.
  • Copy of the blue card addressed to the Guatemala Maritime Administration.
  • Copy of the vessel’s P&I cover (certificate of insurance).

CLC

Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage

CLC covers liability and insurance for pollution damage caused by persistent oil carried in bulk as cargo.

Required for issuance

  • Blue card (1992) addressed to the Guatemala Maritime Administration.
